Live Updates: UK tries to break 26-year drought against Florida

Osborne: There’s no housing boom in UK George Osborne, the U.K.’s finance minister, says that while there is cause for concern, the U.K. is not in the midst of a housing boom. “The FPC’s assessment this week – in line with that of the Chancellor and the Governor – is that recent developments in the housing market represent a broadening recovery from low levels of activity, but that we must remain vigilant as that recovery progresses,” a Treasury spokesperson said. Help to Buy assists buyers with a 5 percent deposit on properties worth up to 600,000. The government provides the buyer with a 20 percent loan. Osborne’s proposals come at a time of growing backlash against the government’s flagship housing policy, introduced earlier this year to help first time buyers get on the property ladder. U.K. house prices increased by 0.9 percent in September from August and were 5 percent higher year-on-year, according to new figures released today by Nationwide, pushing the average house price in Britain to 172,127. “There are also signs that the pickup is becoming increasingly broad-based. For the first time since 2007, all 13 U.K. regions experienced annual house price growth in the third quarter of 2013, said Robert Gardner, Nationwide’s chief economist in a statement.

In his first start of his career, Gatorsjunior quarterback Tyler Murphy completed four passes for 33 yards. UK answered with a 75-yard drive, capped by a 25-yard run by senior kicker Joe Mansour off of a fake field goal attempt. Mansour knocked in the extra point to tie the game, 7-7. UK couldnt capitalize on a missed Florida field goal late in the first quarter. Florida then drove 79 yards on three plays for a score. Running back Matt Jones reeled off a 67-yard run, and Murphy completed a nine-yard touchdown pass to put the Gators in the lead. After another UK three-and-out, Florida drove 62 yards for another score. This time, Murphy ran the ball into the endzone from five yards out to push the Gators lead to 21-7. At the half, Murphy was perfect throwing the ball, completing all of his 11 pass attempts for 120 yards and a touchdown. He added 20 yards and a touchdown on four carries. UK started the second half with a three-and-out, but Florida could not respond. UK sophomore linebacker Josh Forrest intercepted a Murphy pass, ending a 46-yard drive for the Gators. UK could not capitalize. Sophomore quarterback Maxwell Smith was intercepted in the end-zone by Florida freshman cornerbackVernon Hargreaves.
